About me

My story

My journey began as a teacher in the Philadelphia area. During my early business career, I also worked with daycare for young children as I raised my own 3 children. I then began working for a local Catholic school, loving the ability to combine my relationships in the local church along with my love of teaching. I have worked as a teacher for over 20 years now and during this time have worked with children ages 5 to 15. I also actively participate in after school programs such as CARES to provide additional support to our students. During this time I also provided tutoring services. I am extremely proud to have become certified by the Wilson Learning Intstitute, which is a prestigious program that helps provide high level expertise in tutoring. I have a second certification from Wilson Learning which is Wilson Dyslexia Practioner. This certification combined with my many years of experience and love of teaching creates the foundation for me to provide excellent tutoring services to help my customers Succeed.

Wilson Learning Certification

What does it mean to be a Wilson certified Reading tutor?
As a certified Wilson Reading Tutor, I have been trained to deliver the Wilson Reading System — an evidence-based, multisensory approach to reading instruction. I specialize in supporting students with dyslexia and other reading challenges, helping them strengthen decoding, spelling, and comprehension skills.
Why does it matter that I am WRS certified?
Being Wilson Certified means I’ve completed an intensive year-long training in a proven reading program designed for children with dyslexia and other reading challenges. Families can trust that I have the skills and experience to teach the program the way it was designed—step by step, multisensory, and effective—so their child gets the very best support.
What is the difference between a WRS certified tutor and one who is not certified?
  • Wilson Certified Tutor Completed intensive training and supervised practicum Teaches the Wilson Reading System step by step, with fidelity Understands why each lesson builds skills and how to adapt for each child Uses a structured, multisensory approach proven to help struggling readers Provides families with confidence and evidence-based results Not Certified May have little or no formal training in the program May skip steps or teach out of order May not know how to adjust instruction effectively Instruction may be inconsistent or less effective Families may not see steady progress

Feedback about my work

It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Mrs. Janet Patrizio as a reading tutor. Both of my daughters were fortunate to work with her at Saints Philip and James, where she coached them through the fundamentals of reading with extraordinary patience, skill, and dedication. What impressed me most was her persistence in finding the right kinds of stories to spark their interest. She didn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach; she took the time to understand each of my girls’ personalities and interests and then matched them with books that made them excited to read. As a result, their confidence and enjoyment of reading grew tremendously under her guidance. With her recent certification as a Wilson Reading System tutor, I have every confidence that she will bring the same expertise, warmth, and individualized approach to her tutoring business that she brought to the classroom. Any family looking for a supportive and highly effective reading tutor would be lucky to work with her. Barbara I am pleased to recommend Mrs. Patrizio who has been both my son’s elementary school teacher and his tutor. She has done an outstanding job teaching him across all subjects, including reading, writing and math. What we appreciate most is her patience and the way she encourages children to do their best while making them feel supported. She takes the time to understand each child’s strengths and challenges, and she adjusts her teaching style to fit their needs. My son has become more confident, independent, and excited about learning because of her guidance.Mrs. Patrizio is caring, dedicated, and highly skilled, and any child would benefit from having her as a teacher or tutor. We feel very fortunate to have had her as part of our son’s education. Anthony It is my pleasure to recommend Janet Patrizio for her exceptional tutoring skills. She has worked with both of my children, and I cannot speak highly enough of the positive impact she had on their learning. Ms. Patrizio is highly knowledgeable in both English Language Arts and Math. She has a wonderful ability to explain concepts clearly and make learning enjoyable and engaging. What truly sets her apart is her patience and understanding- she meets each child where they are and helps them build confidence step by step. She also offers thoughtful insight into continuing the learning process outside of tutoring sessions, providing strategies and guidance that have made a lasting difference. Thanks to her support, my children have grown not only academically but also in their enthusiasm for learning. I wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Patrizio to any family seeking an excellent tutor who combines expertise, patience and genuine care for her students.
